Bays School of Dance has been in the bays for around 40 years when founding teacher, Mrs Draper, started teaching in church halls when she moved up from Wellington.
In 2002 the dance studio established their own stylish 2 studio premises with sprung floor, mirrors and a dancewear shop.
As of 2009 we have now re located to a bigger 3 studio locaion in order to incorporate our growing studio size and allow for a wider range of dance styles to be taught.
The studio is currently a thriving family business with 3 daughters and 4 granddaughters all teaching among the 15 or so teachers.
Bays School of Dance caters for tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, acrobatics, Musical Theatre, character and contemporary dance, as well as private lessons for competition work in tap, Jazz and Ballet.
Many past and present pupils have won awards, championships and scholarships. Some go on to dance professionally, some cheerlead for sports teams and or teach in their own studios.
The aim of the studio is for the pupils to enjoy dancing first and foremost but at the same time standards must be reached. These standards are reached by pupils sitting exams, entering in scholarships, performing in competitions and performing in dancing recitals.
The studio takes pupils from the ages of 2 years up to adults. Classes may vary from private lessons to exam classes to open hip-hop classes.
